Over
the past 2 years, the O.E.S. Special Project Committee sold tickets
for a number of items and accepted personal donations to help fundraise
for the new CT scanner at Strathroy Hospital .
“The
CT is something that the town has needed, we are proud to support
our local hospital and this important service,” said Carol Featherstone,
Worthy Matron of the Strathroy Order of the Eastern Star. “My husband
needed a CT scan and I believe that it helped to save his life.”
CT
scans can detect life threatening illness and injury by taking cross-sectional
images of muscles and organs. Prior to the CT being installed in
Strathroy, patients in the region had to wait between 8-20 weeks
to receive a scan and travel, sometimes by ambulance to other health
centres. Now scans are performed conveniently in Strathroy, providing
a much quicker diagnosis and treatment for patients. Over 5230 people
have received a CT scan at Strathroy Hospital since it was installed
just over a year ago.
“Thanks
to the Order of the Eastern Star for making this valuable contribution
to the CT scanner campaign,” said Lorna Campbell , SMGH Foundation
Board Chair when she was presented with the gift of $4,000. “Please
accept our deep gratitude for your generosity as it will return
the same to many patients who need a CT scan at our local hospital.”
Veritas
Chapter in Strathroy has been active for 83 years, and is always
ready to welcome new members. They meet on the 3rd Wednesday of
each month except July and August in the Fraternal Hall, 15 Centre
St. in Strathroy. If you would like more information, please call
Carol at 519-245-3166.
