Birthday
Celebration Helps CT Scanner Campaign
Kathleen Gilbert recently celebrated her 80th birthday, and held
a party for her friends and family. As a strong community supporter,
she wished for donations to be made to the CT scanner campaign instead
of receiving birthday presents.
“I
just felt that when I turned 80, I didn't want cards or gifts, I
wanted money to go to our hospital instead. I've got enough knick-knacks
already!” said Kathleen. She went on to say, “When you can help
other people, isn't that important?”
Many
people view their birthday as a time to enjoy cards and gifts from
friends and loved ones. Birthdays are a time to receive ‘special
attention'. Remarkably, Kathleen isn't the only person to make such
a selfless donation. Several people in our region take it upon themselves
to show care and concern for others on their special day by making
a donation in honour of their birthday to support health care.
Kathleen's
80th birthday celebration resulted in a total of $790, which she
donated to Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation (SMGH),
for the CT scanner campaign.
“Many
thanks to Kathleen, and all those who contributed to donating in
honour of Kay's birthday,” said Susan McLean, SMGH Foundation CEO.
“Donations
like Kay's are helping us to approach our campaign goal.”
Both
Four Counties Health Services Foundation and SMGH Foundation are
incredibly close to reaching the goal of raising $2.5 million for
the new CT scanner which has since performed approx. 3700 scans.
