Past
Campaigns:
The
Building Together Campaign
The
Building Together Campaign was an extraordinary undertaking in the
life of our community. Many volunteers helped to raise $7.5 million
dollars to help fund much needed renovations to Strathroy Middlesex
General Hospital. The Provincial Government matched the $7.5 million
contribution, bringing the total renovation funding to $15 million.
Over
the last 20 years, Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital has changed
the way it delivers health care to the community. Throughout the
Building Together Campaign, the emergency and outpatient units were
separated into individual units and renovated. This enabled the
hospital to maintain and improve the health services provided to
our growing community.
Many
corporations, foundations, local business, service clubs and private
citizens committed a tremendous amount of support. Your leadership
and participation in the campaign is important to the patients,
staff and physicians of the hospital. You helped to build a stronger
and more secure healthcare facility for the community.
Emergency
Unit Renovation
In
2001, the Emergency and Ambulatory Care Units had a combined total
of 27,087 visits -- 3 times more than the hospital was designed
to handle. Those numbers have grown since then.
The
Benefits of the Renovation
- BETTER CARE: Improved and efficient work
environment conducive to efficient service care. Reduction of
patient risks by developing improvements such as clear line of
sight between nurses and patients waiting for treatment.
- PROPER DESIGN: Modern facility designed
to meet the needs of the community in keeping with the health
care delivery system of the day.
- ADEQUATE SPACE: Room for patients and
families to be treated with ample waiting and lobby space. Space
for families of severe trauma victims of sudden unexpected death.
- ATTRACTIVE ENVIRONMENT: New and modern
facility that is attractive, calming and patient-friendly.
Redeveloped
Ambulatory Care Unit
The
community's demand for health services is higher than ever before.
This is due to a population that is not only increasing in size,
but also aging. The Ambulatory Care Unit was simply too small, cramped
and inefficient.
By redesigning the hospital floor plan, Ambulatory Services was
relocated to another area of the hospital and now runs much more
effectively.
The
Benefits of the Redevelopment
- BETTER CARE: A facility that provides
space for dignified, personal treatment and care.
- SEPARATE UNIT: Separate ambulatory services
unit within the hospital, designed specifically for ambulatory
care in keeping with today's system of health-care delivery.
- CAPACITY: Full-service unity that can
handle the high volume of patients who are now seeking medical
attention on an outpatient basis.
