Type 2 diabetes is on the rise in Southwestern Ontario; SMGH healthcare providers noticed the trend. In 1996, the SMGH Foundation, through its endowment fund, was able to provide $15,000 to launch a community diabetes education program. Today, the Diabetes Education Centre employs seven people, has a budget of $615,000, and treats 7,400 patients annually.
That’s the benefit of a strong endowment. By investing the principal and spending only a portion of the interest, the fund provides sustainable income that gives the Foundation the flexibility to respond to hospital needs as they arise. A healthy endowment also provides the hospital with a secure source of funding for equipment, technology, building infrastructure and continuing professional education. Your support will provide a personal legacy, creating a nest egg of financial security for the hospital.
