Protecting
the Public Against Charitable Fraud
Jan
15 , 2009
In
2008, many people in South-Western Ontario read or heard about a
charitable telemarketing scam that misrepresented local charities.
This
type of fraud takes advantage of the generosity of donors when money
is collected by individuals pretending to be a charity. These scams
divert much needed donations away from legitimate causes and exploits
those who donate to make a difference.
Strathroy
Middlesex General Hospital Foundation is proud to be a registered
charity with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).
The
CRA is working to help people become more informed donors with information
in the Ontario Government's 2009 Smart Consumer Calendar.
You
can read more on the CRA's
web site or order a Smart
Consumer Calendar (informed donor tips on the November page).
You
can always view Strathroy Hospital Foundation's information listing
on the Canada
Revenue Agency site if you would like more information about
us or feel free to contact us.
