Health Services Top-Notch

The following letter was published in the November 21, 2007 edition of the Strathroy Age Dispatch. Re-printed with permission from Wayne and Joy Reycraft.

Do the residents of Strathroy and surrounding area have any idea how extremely lucky they are to have a top-notch facility at their doorstep like Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital and the Strathroy Medical Clinic?

Do they know how lucky they are to have the experienced and caring staff available at both facilities that enables them to obtain medical attention to large and small problems right around the corner from where they live? I, for one, certainly hope they do.

On behalf of my husband and myself, we would like to take the opportunity to thank both Dr. Crowley and Dr. Ferguson, along with the medical staff at the clinic and the hospital for the excellent care and concern that were expressed during Wayne's recent brush with cancer. If it were not for the excellent medical attention that Wayne received from Dr. David Crowley and Dr. Ferguson, and the promptness of the referral to one of the leading specialists available in London, the outcome could have been entirely different than it was.

Wayne underwent kidney surgery and again we should thank our lucky stars for the recent addition of the CT scanner at the hospital because the surgeon made a note to let me know that they only have the images to go by and they were right on the mark, which made his job a lot easier. Due to the promptness of the diagnosis by Dr. Crowley and Dr. Ferguson, the surgeon was able to remove the tumour, reconstruct the kidney, and Wayne has received a clean bill of health with no additional treatments required.

We, as a town and surrounding area, are so very fortunate that we have access to such excellent, timely medical attention in a time when other areas of our country are not so fortunate. In view of this, Strathroy - support your local hospital - support your local medical practitioners and say a huge thank you to all concerned for making it possible for you to have access to these top-notch facilities right in your own back yard.
