NEW VIDEO: Special Guest Speaker Dr. Michael Rachlis, Health Policy Analyst
The Board of Directors for Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) on the evening of Tuesday, June 7th at Trillium Village in Strathroy.
The AGM was preceded by special guest speaker Dr. Michael Rachlis, Health Policy Analyst, who spoke on the topic of improving Canada’s Health Care system (click to watch his 1 hour and 20 minute presentation).

Tom Appleton, Chair of the SMGH Foundation, presented the annual report for 2010-11, which was a busy and successful year for the Foundation. Funds raised came from a variety of sources, including planned giving, major gifts, annual giving, and social enterprise projects.
“It’s just so great to see the generosity of our community result in providing physicians, nurses and hospital staff with the equipment needed to provide high quality care,” said Appleton.
All donations contributed enabled the Foundation to transfer $905,300 to Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital during 2010-11, a 9% increase to the amount tranferred in the previous fiscal year. These funds helped to purchase hospital equipment, funded on-going professional development for staff, and capital expansion projects.
Nominated, and accepted, to the SMGH Foundation Board of Directors for 2011-2012 were: Chris Das, Ryan Masterman, and Judy McLellan.
Butch Desjardine, Mary Jane Fletcher, Kevin Fryday and Ron Tyler were confirmed to complete the remainder of their terms. Tom Appleton was also re-elected along with Jason Timmermans.
Mr. Appleton thanked and welcomed the new board members. In closing, Mr. Appleton recognized the hard work of previous and current volunteers, staff, and most importantly expressed appreciation for all donors to the Foundation along with great expectations for the year ahead.
