Investing
in the Future of Healthcare
During
May, SMGH Foundation will celebrate Leave
a Legacy Month. This is a special time when planned giving councils
and philanthropic associations encourage community members to make
a gift through a Will.
At
the heart of planned giving is people. 'Ordinary' people, who may
not have vast access to riches beyond belief as some well-known
philanthropists like Bill and Melinda Gates, Warren Buffet, Seymour
Schulich, the Ivey Family, or Jim Balsillie - to name a few.
You
don't need to be a wealthy philanthropist in order to be able to
make a major investment in healthcare that will help thousands of
patients in the future.
Traditionally,
many donors believe that the only possible gift to the Hospital
is a gift of cash during their lifetime. But there are many other
options.
A
planned gift is one that is promised today but realized at some
time in the future. You can create a lasting legacy and make a difference
in someone's life by making a planned gift that will help patients
at Strathroy Hospital for years to come.
These
gifts include:
- Donations
made through wills and bequests
- Donated
life insurance policies
- Gifts
of security - this type of gift offers a great tax savings!
- Tangible
personal property (ex. cars, artwork, furniture, etc.)
- Gifts
of real estate
- Endowed
funds
Each
one of these gifts allows donors to realize their philanthropic
objectives while maximizing tax and other financial benefits. For
