An Evening of Gratitude, Connection and Impact

On October 22, the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation welcomed donors, physicians, hospital leaders and friends to FireRock Golf and Country Club for our Donors of Impact Society Dinner—an evening celebrating the generosity that brings exceptional care closer to home.
At the heart of the evening was a shared sense of belonging. Across every table, guests were celebrated for their part in supporting our hospital and the collective difference their generosity makes. Guests enjoyed meeting fellow supporters, reconnecting with familiar faces and discovering unexpected connections, including friendships reaching back to their school days.
The evening also offered a meaningful look at what donor support is helping accomplish today—and the possibilities ahead.
Middlesex Hospital Alliance President and CEO Julie McBrien highlighted SMGH’s strong performance and commitment to responsible stewardship. Among its 10 peer hospitals, SMGH ranks first for administrative efficiency, with administrative expenses representing 8.8% of total expenses, compared with a peer-group median of 11.1%. This focus on efficiency helps direct more resources toward patient care and frontline services.
Julie also reinforced the essential role of philanthropy. Government funding supports hospital operations but does not fully fund the equipment and technology needed to deliver modern healthcare. Donors help close that gap, enabling SMGH to replace aging equipment, introduce new technology and expand local services.

The impact of that partnership is particularly evident in diagnostic imaging. SMGH is projecting 6,436 MRI scans this fiscal year, with 4,160 operational hours. The service continues to be a strong regional performer for wait times and efficiency, supported by optimized scheduling, extended hours and MRI technologists who collectively bring 129 years of MRI experience. Behind those numbers are patients accessing important diagnostic care closer to home, with less travel and more timely answers.

Guests also learned about the hospital’s newly operational fluoroscopy suite, an investment the Foundation is currently raising funds to support. The technology provides real-time images to guide examinations and procedures. Advanced robotic positioning helps improve image quality, workflow and patient comfort, expanding access to modern diagnostic services within our communities.
Looking ahead, Julie shared that SMGH is exploring the development of a high-risk breast screening program, integrating mammography and breast MRI. The proposed program would support eligible patients at elevated risk of breast cancer through more comprehensive local screening, earlier detection and more coordinated care.

These updates came to life through physician perspectives and patient experiences. A seated panel discussion with Dr. Fahad Sheikh and Dr. Mary Feng, moderated by Julie, explored the future of care close to home and the importance of donor-supported equipment in delivering that care.
Dr. Singh’s diagnostic imaging video, a message of gratitude from Dr. Vipan Jain and Kim’s patient story reinforced the human impact behind every investment: a person, a family and a need for answers, treatment and compassionate care.
Feedback following the dinner reflected appreciation for the welcoming atmosphere, meaningful program and opportunity to better understand the hospital’s role in our communities. Guests valued connecting with fellow donors and seeing how their gifts make a difference, with some expressing plans to continue their support in the months ahead.
Society pins and copies of our Report to the Community awaited guests at their place settings, offering a token of appreciation and stories to revisit and share.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, to our speakers and to all those whose generosity supports SMGH. Your partnership helps equip our teams, strengthen local services and make exceptional care possible for people across our communities.
