On Monday, June 8, Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation, together with Middlesex Hospital Alliance, welcomed family, friends, colleagues, physicians, staff, and community members to honour the life and legacy of Dr. David Borden Sanders.

Dr. Sanders had a remarkable 40-year history with Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital, where his dedication, leadership, and compassion left a lasting impact on patients, families, staff, and fellow physicians. The event provided an opportunity to reflect on his many contributions to local health care and to recognize the meaningful ways his legacy continues to support care close to home.

The Foundation was especially honoured to have Dr. Sanders’ wife, Pam Sanders, in attendance for this meaningful celebration. Throughout the program, remarks were filled with wonderful and humorous stories about Dr. Sanders, offering a heartfelt reminder of his warmth, character, dedication, and the many lives he touched throughout his career and beyond.

As part of the celebration, guests were invited to visit the refreshed Stress Test Lab area and view a commemorative plaque recognizing the generosity of those who made memorial donations in Dr. Sanders’ honour. These gifts helped support improvements to the space and serve as a lasting tribute to Dr. Sanders’ commitment to patient care.

The Foundation is deeply grateful to everyone who joined us for this special gathering, shared memories, and contributed to honouring Dr. Sanders’ legacy. Sincere thanks are extended to Julie McBrien, President and CEO of Middlesex Hospital Alliance; Dr. Candice Rivest; Dr. Perkins; and the many individuals who helped make the event meaningful for Dr. Sanders’ family, friends, colleagues, and community.

Dr. Sanders’ legacy will also be recognized through this year’s SMGH Foundation Golf Classic, where proceeds will support the purchase of a Pulmonary Function Testing machine for Ambulatory Care. This important equipment will help assess and monitor patients with breathing and lung conditions, continuing Dr. Sanders’ legacy of improving care for patients in our community.

We invite you to view photos from the event below and share in the memories from this special gathering.
