As our community gathers on November 11 to honour Canada’s veterans, the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital Foundation is proud to recognize the courage, sacrifice, and service of all those who have worn our nation’s uniform.

This Remembrance Day, Foundation CEO Michelle Hancock will lay a wreath at the Strathroy Cenotaph on behalf of the Foundation’s Board of Directors, donors, and volunteers.
“It’s a privilege to stand with our community in remembrance,” says Hancock. “We’re forever grateful to those who have served — and to the families who have supported them through it all. Their legacy of service continues to inspire the work we do every day.”
In recognition of Veterans Week, from November 10–14, complimentary parking will be available for all veterans visiting Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. Veterans are invited to stop by the parking booth or visit the Foundation Office to have their parking validated.

“It’s a small gesture, but one that reflects our gratitude,” adds Hancock. “Many of our veterans have walked the halls of SMGH — as patients, volunteers, and supporters. This is one way we can say thank you.”
The Foundation also extends a heartfelt appreciation to local Royal Canadian Legion Branches and Ladies Auxiliaries for their extraordinary commitment to patient care.
Together, these dedicated community partners have raised nearly $300,000 to purchase vital hospital equipment — including blanket warmers, ICU cardiac monitors, and bariatric stretchers — improving comfort and care for patients and families across Middlesex County.
“Our local Legion members embody the true spirit of service,” says Hancock. “Their generosity continues to make a lasting impact on the care our hospital can provide — and that’s something worth celebrating.”
Foundation Board Chair, Matt Bellia, shares a special personal connection to Remembrance Day.
“My first public performance as a drummer in a pipe band was on Remembrance Day right here in Strathroy,” recalls Bellia. “I still remember the emotion of that day — the quiet, the respect, and the sense of community pride. It’s an honour to now serve an organization that continues to support those same values of service, remembrance, and care.”
The Foundation invites the community to join the ceremony at the Strathroy Cenotaph on November 11 to honour our veterans and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Lest we forget.
